Please be aware that there has been an amendment to the Feb. 2005 FIFA ruling the "you must touch the ball in order to be called offside"
You now can be called offside prior to touching the ball :
"A player in an offside position may be penalized before playing or touching the ball if, in the opinion of the referee, no other team-mate in an onside position has the opportunity to play the ball"
"if an opponent becomes involved in the play and if, in the opinion of the referee, there is potential for physical contact, the player in the offside position shall be penalized for interfering with an opponent

Quite possibly the most prestigious award in Canada that one could receive in the Soccer world, is the Canadian Soccer Asscoiation Award of Merritt.
The award which is handed out yearly to persons nonimated by the provincial bodies (Ontario Soccer Assoication) for :
"recognition of outstanding contribution to the growth and development of the sport of soccer in Canada at the Provincial and National Levels"
For the first time, the honor of this award has been handed out to an individual here in the Niagara Region. This years recipient is Mary Dunleavy of the Niagara Soccer Association (NSA).
The award was presented to Mary at a ceremony on May13th honoring some of the countries finest.
What most people do no know, is that Mary also received a similar disctintion at the Provincial level just two years ago.
Congratulations Mary on this most derseving honor.

helmet while cycling. For those of you over the age of 16, it's just plain smart if you wear a helmet. We have recently had a tradegy of a young 18 year boy who lost his life here in Niagara from a cycling accident. Unfortunately, he was not wearing a helmet nor did he have any lights on his bike which is also the law. Please keep safe while riding your bike wether it's too and from games or simply for recreation.
